QR Code is not new. It was invented in 1994. Ever since its birth, it has helped many businesses.

Google apparently loves QR Code and they developed an API for its free QR code generator. They love it so much that they even combined the service with their URL shortner in Apr 201o. Please read the following article for more details.

Basically, you go to http://goo.gl, type in a long URL address and it will generate a short URL with QR Code. Easy as that. That saves you time of going to to Google Chart api.
